Whiteheads appear same as it sound- small blemishes with whitish head. They can be annoying especially then when you are about to leave for meeting or any function. Whiteheads form due to excess production of sebum and dead skin cells. It can occur on any parts of the body such as nose, back, shoulders and arms. Clogged pores are the main cause of whiteheads. Sebum is another word of oil so do not confuse with it. Your skin needs certain amount of natural oil to nourish and protect your skin. If you see tiny blemishes on your skin like black dots, you have got blackheads. Blackhead is also classified as comedones. Whiteheads are close while blackheads are open and have black appearance. Hormonal changes during puberty are the most common trigger for excess sebum production that further causes blackheads.

Always remember papules cause swelling and redness but not pus. Papules can be small to medium size. Pustules are similar to papules but they have got pus- which hopefully makes the name easy to remember. Pustules contain whitish and yellowish looking pus, they may look like bigger ‘angrier’ whiteheads and they may feel painful to touch. Yes, it seems tempting to squeeze it but you have to pay for it later on with a post breakout scars. You need to wait until a whitehead is visible, then you can carefully extract it.
Severe acne: Nodules, Cysts
If you have got a face full of large reddish color inflamed blemishes, chances are high that you got one type of severe acne: nodules and cysts. If you let them untreated it can cause more severe and permanent damage to your skin. If topical creams and over-the-counter treatments are not enough to treat these types of acne, it is time to see a dermatologist for stronger and prescribed medicines.
